    I also vote for seal. If that is the case, there may be an issue with possession in the US, unless the age can be determined. The broken ends could also be indicative of Caribou which is not a problem to possess, but seems to be more translucent like seal.

    Very odd indeed! Almost laughable. It looks like the poor chap took a highly polished musket ball to the groin area and the sporran absorbed the impact.

    That's not caribou, moose or other member of the deer family I know of.

    If we were going to wager I would be pulling to put a dollar or two on the sporran being seal skin.
