Absolutely. In Wisconsin you'd be in trouble for it. My comment about no real reason to wear one is from a legal standpoint. Heck, if I could, I'd wear one just to wear it, but the law here says no. You can't carry a knife with a blade longer than 3 inches. Even at that if is isn't a folding knife they'll give you a bunch of hassle about it. The only exception is while in the woods hunting, in season of course.

Man, Wisconsin must be a pretty oppressive place to live...I feel for you.
As for "there's no good reason to wear a dirk" ... there's no good reason to own a Corvette, or a swimming pool or wear a kilt, either. Fortunately, as long as this is the USA, I don't need to have a 'reason'....because I feel like it is good enough.

Celt, that's the way the law is. However, the more rural the area the less likely the 3 inch blade law is to be enforced. Frankly, I think people put more faith in the law and police than is warranted or deserved, but that's me

Well, that's me too, then.
The function of the police is to pick up the pieces after the fact .... everyone is, or should be, responsible for their own safety.

Around this town the purpose of the police is revenue gathering more than anything else. If they saw you wearing a dirk they'd be slavering like rabid hounds thinking of how much they could squeeze out of you.

It is to bad that this is what law enforcement has come to. It almost sounds like Mexican police ways.

Andrew, it's getting like that all over the US these days. If it isn't forbidden it's required. It's what happens when politicians keep passing laws just so they can tell voters they're doing something. It never crosses their minds that more often than not it's best to do nothing.

Don't worry, Alaska would be just as restrictive if it had the population. Just have a look at the legal system. The higher and denser the population the worse it gets as a rule. Doing something "because I want to" only works til the guy with the badge and gun says you can't. Apparently for now you guys in Alaska have it pretty good, but the way things are going don't count on it lasting.
