Ther were a lot of folk in kilts on the street, more so than my last visit, I suppose 'cos the tourist season is here.

Rob got in first with the question - gotta get you into that tartan, mate.

Me too Al but it doesn't seem long before you feel like a part of the place. I can't tell you how strongly I dislike towns or cities and yet I'm quite happy bumbling round Edinburgh for the last 5 days. It's funny that one of my lads loves the full monty, he's looking up tartans to see which he likes .

Thanks Rhino,
That is some great inside information.
I am pleased your tour was done by Mercat.
I realized after my post they were the ones another
friend had endorsed. I'll definitely try to
get my wife to go shopping at those stores and since
kids are not an issue yet I'll be free to hit the
Mile.
I am a country boy at heart. Nothing against
cities but I do like my space and privacy.
So to hear your feelings are similar,
and Yet You had such a good time there is
quite reassuring.
If you happen to be planning another trip there in mid September,
Let me know I would love to buy you a pint or dram.

Funnily enough September might be a go, as I was thinking another trip around that time would be great before Christmas. You'll notice I said your wife will want to go to Jenners etc, not shop. For goodness sake don't let her actually shop there, you won't be able to afford your kilt .
Seriously my better half came back with a faraway look in her eye and told me about a denim jacket she'd liked. £305
Nuff said.

So, hows about trying to meet up for a few beers? I have things arranged in September, but would make the effort if you're game.

We will be there on 9-14,15 and leave on 16th to go
back to Glasgow. We have dinner plans on the 14th
but that will not take all evening and are free on
the afternoon and evening of the 15th.
I don't have to worry about my
wife's shopping, she is quite a thrifty.
Believe me, when I tell you I got lucky when I married her.

To be honest, I don't make a very good tourist. I like to get off the beaten track and mix with the locals. Less chance of getting ripped off.
I take it you were kilted while you were there. Any reaction to the non - tartan?

Sounds good to me Al we'll see what we can do, looks like it needs to be the 15th if we're to catch KML, which is Wednesday. I'll check on flights ands accomodation and get back to you both.
Al also wroteAny reaction to the non - tartan?
Not a great deal, I was talking to Howie on the mile one day and a girl from the US asked if they were kilts, we'd both got pinstripes on (just by chance) and before either of us could answer her boyfriend (Glaswegian) sneered 'no they're skirts'. It must have been disconcerting to have 2 fairly hefty blokes laughing at him in the street, so he became defensive and quoted some 'rules' for wearing kilts. At this point Howie answered with the best answer to this I've heard. He said and I'm trying to quote verbatum 'But I'm wearing this kilt like you'd wear a pair of jeans. Nobody can tell you how to wear a pair of jeans'. Just seemed to make perfect sense at the time and what I've tried to say, and failed, before.
Funnily enough I was kilted less there than I was the week before, at work.
Hope we can work out a night in Edinburgh

15th sept is looking OK for me. I work a back shift on the 14th so it's likely to be PM before I hit the city. If you're still up for a few beers keep me posted.

Sounds like a plan to me.
It would be great to meet you fellows.
We can take a closer look at
our schedules as the time nears.
I don't know about you guys, but the way time flies in my life it will
be here before we know it.
