I don't want to violate any rules here and talk politics. This thread was about a wonderful musical tribute to the man. Besides, didn't Maggie T support the Apartheid regime?

An inspirational man has passed... some pipe music and dancing is in order.

Not sure what you mean, Phil? I thought this thread was a tribute to a great man.

I always play this tune with my Scottish/Irish trio. Sounds great on Scottish Smallpipes, fiddle, and guitar.

Somebody gave me a tape years ago, an amazing recording of that piece, which starts out with African percussion, then African singing, then a pennywhistle band, and finally full pipe band. One of the coolest things ever.

Here is a fusion of Scottish and African dancing with this music.

Yes that's the very track I have had on tape for many years. Watching that video brought tears to my eyes. What the world has lost!

Does anyone know the artists on that original track, and where and when it was recorded?

"Nelson Mandela's...." is on Douglas's 2007 CD "A Summer in Skye," however I first heard it on the Narada "Brave Hearts" compilation CD from 1998.

I can't find any detailed track info from Douglas's site, unfortunately: http://www.blairdouglas.co.uk/
