I simply ask the local kilt hire shop where they send their kilts to be cleaned.

Nearest kilt hire shop is several hours drive from here.

But I haven't always. I admit that I've never lived more than an hour from a kilt shop though.

Yup. For those of us hours away, it remains a question.

Ha! You think there's a local kilt hire shop... that is funny.

If there were a local kilt hire shop, that's precisely what I would do. However, I have NEVER had a local kilt hire shop near me either. Previously, I had some friends in a pipe band that I trusted. Again, since moving to RI I have yet to meet any pipers. I'll be hitting up the local parades in a week or so... I'll just follow the band to the pub after the parade and start chatting them up.

Nathan, from what I know, YOUR local kilt hire shop could be the nearest to me! I suppose I had better dust off that old passport...

OK, point well taken. To Kyle's point, kilts don't need to be dry cleaned very often. I've had one of my kilts for 20 years and had it professionally cleaned exactly twice. Just some basic maintenance and pressing keeps it nice.

I do the same. After wearing, I hang the kilt near a partially open window for an hour or two (in the winter with our 70 mph winds driving the rain sideways, I use a window on the leeward side of the house) before returning the kilt to its bag and two cedar blocks.

Only 70mph?....that's just a slight breeze in the winter months.....except for those east-coasters which consider anything above 35 a "high wind"....LOL.

Well done Highlander31, way to air a kilt out.....

We always laugh at the news, when they whine about their small winds on the east coast, while ours here on the coast in the Pacific Northwest, never seem to get a mention. If I remember correctly, 70 mph sustained winds qualifies as hurricane strength.

The winds tend to get a bit higher when the heavy storms roll in.

Oh yes, I could not agree more that professional dry cleaning is not a regular event. I just like to know in the event something happens and I need it.

But, I still may dust off my passport... I have not been to Canada in severall years and think a trip with my son is in order.

That's precisely what I do, minus the 70 mph winds though!
