So post the details and let a brother XMarker who does have a 41 - 43 inch waist (not me, I'm a 38!) bid for it and buy it. It's a very nice looking kilt.

I'd say Orionson has first dibs on this one.

Thanks, Calgacus. Cianam very kindly gave me the heads up on his decision and I emailed the seller directly. I also went to the Islay Mill site and learned that this beautiful tweed is actually the Finlaggan Tartan, which is of their own design to commemorate the MacDonald Lordship of the Isles.
I have no family ties to the Clan Donald. Subsequently, I would not wear their tartans. Had it been a District Tartan, I may have felt differently.
So, this beauty is still very much on the market.

Have you seen this? Is it the same? If it is, it would suggest that it is a district tartan.

I found the kilt at the ministry of tartan, they specialise in used kilts and are based in Scotland. Hope it works out for someone as it would be great to see it being worn.

Yes, (thanks for taking the time to look this out). District it may be, but the fact remains that the Finlaggan Tartan clearly commemorates the MacDonald Lordship of the Isles.
Beautiful as the tweed certainly is, I can't/won't wear it. It's a delicate local matter. I live in Skye, in MacKinnon country. Until a few months ago, I even lived on the Clan Donald Estate in Sleat, barely 200 yards from Armadale Castle. It would be inappropriate for me to wear this tartan.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but it seems like the people who have written on here know their stuff. I am thinking about bidding for this kilt on ebay.

It's a 34" waist, which is my size, but it's a 22" length, which is a tad short. Does anyone know how expensive it would be to alter the length to 24"? Also, I don't suppose anyone knows the name of the tartan?

What lovely colours! Not sure about the rear, may have been better done to sett, but nonetheless, it looks great.

As the kilt is pleated to the stripe you might easily get away with moving the buckles on the right and the strap on the left so as to make the under apron wrap further round.
Use a seam ripper or a scalpel type blade to cut the thread securing the tabs of the buckles and the ends of the strap and resew through all the layers of the kilt. Use a needle fine enough to go through the same holes as already in the leather.

Short answer: can't be done and still have a well-fitting, good-looking kilt.
Long answer: where do you think that extra length is going to come from? There's (presumably) no hem to let out. You can't magically add fabric to the top, and even if you went to those lengths (so to speak) it would change the length of the fell/how the kilt fits at waist and hips. I fear you need to keep looking for one that fits you to begin with.
