    Alaskan,

Glad to hear that you and your ex-girlfiend are still friendly, I certainly know how dogs can mean a lot to the people they live with, but also to those they come in contact with, like I keep saying their is something about a dog that makes my heart glow. I reckon that I am missing my dog I had for 14 years it still is hard sometimes.

You do have a knack of explaining things that I wish I had, I sometimes just blurt out without thinking, thank you for being a great part of this forum, you keep me humble, and that my friend is hard to do.

    Glen,

I know how it is to loose an old friend. Twice in the last three years, I've had to have a dear old friend put to sleep. Here is a story that helped me cope.

    Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Wow, Doc... If I wasn't at work right now I would have probably been brought to tears by that.

One of the best "Twilight Zone" episodes was about a hunter and his dog who drowned together. When they were at the gates the hunter was told that he couldn't bring his dog in, as dogs are not allowed in heaven.
The hunter said something to the effect that if his dog wasn't welcome, then he really didn't think Heaven was the place for him.
So the hunter stayed outside the gates with his dog. After a while they were found by a man who invited them to Heaven. The hunter explained that he had already told the man at the gate that if his dog wasn't welcome he didn't want to go.
The man laughed and explained that dogs were indeed allowed in Heaven and that the other gate had been to Hell. The devil was using tricks to try and get people's souls even after they are dead. The man at the gate wouldn't allow the dog because it would have smelled the brimstone far away and led his master the right way.

I hate to give away endings of TV shows and movies, mostly because I hate it when I hear even the most minute details of something I haven't seen yet. However, I felt with the age of this episode, that anyone who hasn't seen it isn't particularly likely to see it any time soon.

Obviously, I figured out the avatar...
    Puppette is my best girl.
She works as a Therapy dog at the hospital with me.
I am so fortunate to have my dog at work with me.

Have you seen the auto oil commecial that shows the Yellow Lab that says it is his truck, but the human takes good care of it.

That Rainbow Bridge gets me every time.

That is the true way of things.

I don't think Ilike you avatar CanisLatrans. It reminds me too much of my sweet old Golda. We lost her to cancer and old age two and a half years ago. She was 14 years old at the time.

On second thought, that's not sucy a bad thing. Give Miss Puppette a hug for me.

BTW, we currently have a Miniature Schnauzer named Pepper and a Great Pyrnees named Mattie.

You really are a lucky cuss to get to take your dog to work with you.

Thanks Doc it really was a nice story that I had not heard in awhile still without a dog at this moment, but will get one when the time is right.

Never any hurt intended. I know it is hard to be reminded. Liver and white springer spaniels still hurt my heart after over 15 years since the death of my Kelli...
    *sniff*
