My son is 23 and has never worn or owned jeans. It was cargo shorts from the time he was out of diapers up until he switched to cargo pants (eh Jock there's another California species of clothes for ya) around the age of 12 or so.

These shorts and pants are usually light khaki, but you see them in black and camo too. My son loves them because he's a big reader and he always has some big book in one of the pockets, ready for any 'down time' he might have.

Anyhow shorts in actual tartan? No. A fashion plaid, just maybe.

Here are actual tartan shorts... meh

BTW a lot of people here wear 'board shorts' all the time, others wear 'swimming trunks' as everyday wear. There are people who don't own long pants of any sort. I wear cargo shorts and flip-flops year round; slacks are for church and work only.

Not only are there cargo shorts and cargo pants, there are also cargo pants made so that half the legs can be removed to convert them into cargo shorts.

As was my plaid luggage. I seem to recall it being the MacLeod of Harris.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Hmmm ... tartan cargo shorts ... for some reason , I'm having visions of Rodney Dangerfield .

Would I wear them ? Well I guess that depends on whether the sides of the cargo pockets were pleated to the stripe or to the sett .

This is not only going to show my age, but also my ignorance. Just what exactly are "cargo shorts"?
