    Phil,

The name of the club is Plymouth Argyle. the first part of the name is due to the fact that it is in Plymouth, Devon. The second part of the name was given to the club because it was started up at a meeting in Argyle Terrace, Plymouth.

Argyle is an Anglicised spelling of Argyll, so some club supporters were wondering about the use of an Argyll Tartan. Support for the club comes from the Counties of Devon and Cornwall (both of which have their own district tartans), so the Devon fans want one of the Devon Tartans and the Cornish fans want one of the Cornish Tartans to represent the club. Club colours are green and white, and both Devon Original and Cornish Hunting Tartans have these colours.

It is the very fact that fans are talking about wearing kilts to support the club that I find amazing and enlightening, especially as English football fans usually have a reputation for being what Americans would refer to as 'redneck'.

I hope this helps to explain things a bit better.

    Rob

    We was Robbed!!!!!

A goaldisallowed by a blind Swiss referee who was obviously paid heaps not to penalise the Portugese in any way.

England are out of Euro 2004.

Of course, you Americans might be more concerned that the lovely Venus was dumped out of Wimbledon because of a useless Umpire who can't count.

A day for controversy in Sport

Every day is a day of controversy in sports. My own philosophy is if you like a sport, get out and play it. For me sitting on the couch watching overpaid kids play a game while sponsors try to con me into buying crap I don't want just ain't fun.

    Bubba,

You and I have much more in common than either of us could possibly have imagined.

Personally, I'm no fan of spectator sports.

    I've never watched a soccer/football game ofnTV.

I've never watched a professional or college Basketball game on TV.

Nor have I ever watched a SuperBowl Game and mighty bloody few professional American Football games.

I never could see the sense of getting involved with watching grown men getting paid to play a game.

Heck, everybody around here knows I don't care for watching sports, particularly on TV. I completely lost all respect for pro sports when the organizations, which pay outlandish salaries and charge through the nose for tickets, conned the taxpayers into paying for rediculously elaborate stadiums with threats of moving. When the Packers pulled that I offered to help em pack. It infuriates me to use tax money to benefit a big money for profit organization.
