Alas, dreams of an Isle of Skye regimental weight traditional selvage tartan may need to be deferred...

Well, you could always ask Mrs Rosemary Nicolson Samios and Dalgliesh, if you want to spend the money, I'm sure that people will talk with you.

Perhaps. But I am thinking that might go well beyond the typical (already quite pricey) Dalgliesh prices if indeed they were willing.

I'm not sure how I would go about contacting her. Although maybe Dalgliesh would do that if one talked to them first. Might be worth an email.

If you want to inquire about a special weave in a heavier weight , you could also send a PM to Nick Fiddes . He is the owner of Scotweb and DC Dalgliesh and is a member here on XMarks .

    Cheers , Mike

    Edit:
I've checked a big part of the Marton Mills Tartan List and it seems, that Isle of Skye is the only Tartan with 8% Nylon. All other tartans (that I checked) just mention wool under composition.
both are correct. The addition of the small quantity if nylon means that Marton Mills are not producing a 100%wool because that is restricted to Lochcarron . Marton Mills weave it under licence (and, as Steve makes clear, paying duly in support of the Isle) . But they still don't have permission to weave 100% wool.

I have a kilt in 13oz from Marton Mills. Frankly I can't tell the difference between the feel of this cloth and 100% wool from Marton Mills.
    Best wishes - Harvey.

I was a bit confused because Steve said:
Marton Mills Jura fabrics are 100% wool in 16oz per fabric yard weight.
When Marton Mills say, that their Isle of Skye is only 92% wool with 8% Nylon.
Apparently it's the only Jura range tartan that uses Nylon for the stated reason.

My "Cornish Hunting" kilt is Marton Mills 16oz wool and to be honest, I didn't feel a difference to the Isle of Skye swatch.
