I started wearing the Kilt at 22 and I honestly don't feel the other years were "wasted". During those 22 1/2 years, I met my wife, graduated College, ran a State Presidential Campaign, and other various activities.
I had some difficult years to be sure (primarily from the ages of 16 to 20). Sorry, I'll stop being philisophical.

Welcome Aaron, I'm sure you will find this forum much to your liking. As for wasted time...naaa...it was time well spent in preparation for the day you receive your first kilt.

Welcome Aaron. It always seems that the time was wasted, but I more regret that it took me so long to get kilted. Now, I just wear it when and where I like. The time that is wasted is the time after you own a kilt, and you are in trousers...
Trouser time is the only wasted time.

Aaron, what can I say that has not already been said by my brothers in kilts? Welcome, it's good to have you here.
Don't speak to me of wasted years! I wore kilts from the age of 14 until I was 62½ - but only for Scottish Country and Highland dancing ......... it was a uniform, a costume, nothing more! What on earth was I playing at? Thankfully, I came to my senses just over five years ago, and gave up trousers once and for all. Now I don't own even one pair (but I do have 39 kilts!!). Life is Good.

You truly are an inspiration Hamish. In just over five short years you have given up trousers and gone exclusively to kilts.

Welcome, Aaron! I guess I can't say any more than what has been said about wasted time, just be warned - wearing the kilt is like eating potato chips, you can't stop at just one!

Hiya Murph,
You wouldn't know it was dark without the light.
Thos eyears in pants have taught you to appreciate being kilted.
Nothing is ever wasted.

I think the message here is than many, if not most of us, wake up to the beauty of the kilt later in life.
Now either it's the onset of male menopause or else we have matured in our understanding of life, common sense comfort and gotten in touch with reality.
I prefer to believe the latter
