Hi Jay and welcome from sunny Queensland!
You've already taken the hardest step, going out of your front door in your kilt - at 16, that's great! Most guys don't make it that far, even those who might like to try a kilt.
Walk tall and display as much confidence as you can muster and you'll find that it gets easier each time and once your immediate group of friends get used to seeing you in your kilt, it will become a non-event. You might even persuade one or two of them to join you, especially if it attracts the young ladies in your group!
I think someone here has the by-line "Those who matter don't care and those who care don't matter" or some such - good advice!
Regards, Sav.

Welcome from a few hours West in North Texas! I want to echo the encouragement other have passed on. As a somewhat of a newbie myself (well into my adult years), and as an extremely shy person, I understand how you feel. Yeah, there are little funny jabs from my friends, given and taken in good humor (which I can respond to in like manner - and we're all still pals) but for the most part any attention you get is positive in nature. My confidence has increased since wearing the kilt for the first time in public, and yours will, too. Don't be discouraged. Jerks are jerks, and they are few. Everyone else digs it.
