I just found the surname Lorby listed on a census form - it took me a while to realise that it is not an L but an S and the name is actually Sowerby written down as pronounced. My oldest ancestor in the Gillott line is recorded as a Gillatt due to the way it is pronounced.
I have had messages from my father's cousins granddaughter and someone who's great great grandfather was my great great grandfather's brother. We knew the first one, but the family of the second one has been estranged for over a hundred years. Being able to search on line and connect to such distant family members is fascinating.
