Glen, since you asked, I would go with a less formal sporran for day wear, something like the hunting sporran without the chrome cantle. I would also go with plain hose, perhaps in maroon to add a bit more colour, perhaps with a tie that has a maroon stripe. The neutral colour of the kilt and waist coat, allows for all sorts of combinations of hose, flashes and shirts. I prefer the light grey jacket.
The skunk dress sporran goes well with the formal outfit.
Great looking kilt and waist coats btw.

Stopped by the local Scottish shop today to see about a simple black sporran, but alas, the store is closed on Mondays. (Have a brown for day use with the BW kilt)

With my anatomy, I have found custom hose to be very comfortable, compared to regular produced hose thus will continue to wear for both day and formal usage. I have a pair of dusky pink, and although liking the colour, these hose, like all others, cause discomfort after a short period of wear. Perhaps the next custom hose may be pink for colour...

I like the grey and the skunk as well... ;)

I like the contrast of the plain-ish dark Argyll jacket.

The kilt and waistcoat set up a wide swath of mid-grey (blended by the eye at distance) and my eye wants to see some contrast. I can see wearing a black jacket and black hose to set off the rest.

But I love colour! And I'm not a big fan of all-black, all-grey, all-white, or all grey-tone outfits. My eye wants to see colour there somehow.

What about this concept: black jacket and red waistcoat? I'd like to see what it looks like. With that, I suppose the hose could be red or black, or red & black diced hose.

Another thing that comes to mind is a deep royal blue jacket and red hose. Anything with contrast to set the kilt off and make it zing.

In these pictures the rest of the outfits are dark, letting the tartan show up nicely
