All of you chaps are correct, of course, 'Black Watch' IS a brilliant tartan. However, it and Royal Stewart are seen EVERYWHERE: on calendars, tins of biscuits (cookies), bottles of whisky, clothes from every chain-store in the land, packets of smoked salmon, funny hats sold in souvenir shops, etc. etc. You name it, and you can find it somewhere packaged or trimmed in either of those tartans! They are far too 'commonplace' for me ever to consider having a kilt in one or the other.

Sorry, but I wouldn't want to be wearing a tartan seen everywhere else. It's rather like all men having identical pairs of grey trousers!!

Still, if you guys all want to look alike........

Well Hamish, one of the good things about being in a small and isolated island is that those things common elsewhere are still uncommon here.

Heck, saffron kilts are common in Ireland, plain green and caramel kilts are plentiful in many areas.

I choose a tartan based on colour mostly, from the samples I've seen, there's a lot to like about the Black Watch. It's almost like a plain black kilt with more than a hint of tartan.

Thanks for the views and the samples lads!

Being a Republican Irishman, I obviously don't have that certain tartan. However, it IS one of the best out there on looks.

I know that Bear has about three or four different BlackWatch tartans available. If you're gonna order one, do it fast... before August 1.

Done! just ordered from USAK, I liked the Stewart Hunting traditional i got before, it was the first kilt I'd bought over the net that fitted perfectly first time, so I thought I'd go with them again.

Another one Graham!?! Yikes, who do you think you are, Richard Johnson?

Okay, fine, you caught me. I'm just jealous. First, the Duncan kilt, and now a Victory and Black Watch. Being skint stinks! :x

Did you go for the traditional, or the philabeg?

Well, of course I have one, but I wear it only with the uniform...if I have to wear a kilt for different reasons I wear the Royal Stuart, pratically the only one an Italian can wear.

I have one, courtesy of Union Kilts, but I prefer to call it the Sutherland Tartan (or Number One Tartan) seeing as my people tended to belong to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (not me, I was in something else).

    *cough*(date of thread)*cough*

I think in the last 4 years Graham may have acquired his BW kilt.
