Although not by any means my most frequent, I have to say my favorite is Formal Evening Wear.

I suppose that this is due to the fact that the older I get the more I dislike how informal our society is getting. I own more ties now than I ever have before.

For better or for worse the black Argyll has been the standard piper's dress for decades now, and being a piper that's what I usually wear for piping at weddings or funerals or what have you.

I have rebelled against the standard pipe band sporran that the vast majority of pipe bands wear- oh, I have one, and I have to wear it in the band- but I display my love for vintage Highland Dress by wearing a 100 year old cantle on a new goathair body which imitates a typical late Victorian/Edwardian look. That and the 100 year old pipes. This is how I appear at most gigs, more or less

I actually prefer dressing like this, and do when I think I can get away with it

BTW here's the black Argyll being worn by a piper many years ago

My favourite level of THCD is formal or full formal evening wear because of the general epic-ness that it can reach when the situation calls for maximum sartorial impact. That being said, I've never actually attended an event where I have chosen to go with all the bells and whistles...

This outfit, for example, would be even more awesome if I was wearing buckle brogues and was headed off to an event requiring me to address a haggis, which would give me an excuse to wear a dirk However, I'm not much of one for plaids of any kind.

More often than not, I find myself wearing smart/informal daywear. It seems to be the most flexible level of dress, at least for the types of events I attend:

I'm most comfortable in casual attire:

    - Justitia et fortitudo invincibilia sunt
    - An t'arm breac dearg

Great answers and great pics! Keep 'em coming!!

I love my smart day wear for sure!

But if I had to choose a favourite, I'd have to say this formal evening ensemble for more formal black tie/white tie level events.
