The Appalachian Trail has been done kilted before, but never in a Bear Kilt. The kilt of course isn't as popular as shorts on the Trail, but this year I saw more people wearing the Mountain Hardwear "kilt" (it's really more like a sarong, but it is made for men), and a few people wearing Sport Kilts. One other person finished before I did in a Sport Kilt. However, I know that most people who did wear kilts also brought along long trousers or long underwear for cold weather, and shorts for hanging around camp after hiking. I did neither. Toward the end of my hike I did get a pair of boxer shorts to wear while I slept, but only because it was too hot to sleep in my sleeping bag, and I didn't figure other people wanted to see me naked.
In any case, it is an accomplishment. This year, about 1,300 people started, and only around 20% will finish. I count myself lucky to be in that 20%.

Again, well done Andrew, you did it truly kilted. When I go hiking I am always the only one kilted, kilts are not as widespread here.
Just a thought, I sleep in an Indian "lungi", a wrap around, very light and comfortable.
You're an inspiration!

Congratulations Andrew! I think someone should contact the people at Guiness World Records! Even if not, that is an amazing accomplishment!

Okay... I walk from the stage to the bar for a Guinness, and I'm spent!
Kilted or not, that's outstanding! 8)

Congratulations!! What an amazing accomplishment! You must have incredible stamina. I, like Jimmy, get fatigued just ambling over to the tapper for a pint!

Stunning achievement.
I am put to shame because the strongest muscle in my body is the finger that clicks the left mouse button!
Good on you!

Fantastic, What an effort. The AT is the worlds top walk. I followed your progress and was envious of all who try it and am pleased to be able to say well done to someone who made all the way. It even inspired me to dust off my wlking boots and hit the hills again. Thanks!
HAPPY KILTING
