When I say unconfirmed, I mean we know the last name only. Really, all records end with "This guy arrived in the US on a boat from some unknown origin" so relying on last names is hard.
So, I don't know what I'll end up going with yet. I'm not good with this whole ancestry thing anyways, I leave that to my Aunt.
There have been periods of anti-Scott sentiment, or maybe just anti-immigrant, in US history. I hit a dead end for a while trying to find my ancestor who was recorded on various census as having been born in Illinois, but turned out (according to death certificate) to have been born in Lamarck, Scotland. This makes tracing where your family is from quite difficult.

Well met Bob. One thing I have gathered from this forum (working on my own genealogy and kilt addiction) with narrowing in on family, I was drawn to focus attention and time with my current relatives. This ( XMarks) part of the journey has been meeting new friends with a common interest. I discovered relatives here as well as my birth place of NC. May your personal quest be as fruitful. Another Bobby welcomes you.

Welcome from the highlands of central Massachusetts. Take it slow and learn. You could go through a lot of money on kilts that will not have lasting meaning or appreciation of them. Get to know the different weights of wool to know what you want. Get to know the different ways it can be pleated. Look at a lot of kilts to see the characteristics of different kilts. When you know you really want something specific then get quality.
Just my thoughts on the matter. Again, welcome.
