Sailortats and I are doing an on-line high five for the red shirt choice. Fine look for both of you. I hope the evening was just as fetching.

Thank you all for the great advice.

Sailortats- the outfit you suggested of the Spencer jacket and vest with red shirt and black tie sounds good jacket and vest won't be back from the cleaner's in time for me to wear it on Tuesday.

Liam-the navy blue jacket is kilt length and is my stand in for a black Argyll as I can't afford one at this time.

Father Bill-Judy (my fiancée) has seen me kilted a few times and recently quite casually when we flew home from California last month. She really likes the Spencer/Prince Charlie look but understands that may be too much for the kind of restaurant we're going to. I really don't think anyone is going to notice the sgian dubh as their attention is probably going to be focused on my beautiful lady. Besides, most people in Colorado Springs, CO carry some kind of knife and if not, they're carrying a gun either openly or concealed. Also, Colorado Springs is already weird.
If you are concerned about the knife thing but wish to be correct, wear a dummy plastic Sgien Dubh with a dummy jewel in it. looks and feels correct.
I would simply wear a white shirt with your preference of tie if you are wearing a jacket which is not true traditional Highland wear.
If you are wearing the Kilt do nor over do it if your jacket is not technically correct. Roderick

I hope that you will allow my bit of humor as it struck me as funny.

Matre De.. " Sir, Is that a knife in your sock ?"

You " why yes it is"

Matre De.. " Sir, we do not allow knives in our restaurant"

You... " Oh, well how do you propose I cut a steak ? "

lol I just found that exchange quite funny in my head..
