There is a guy on eBay who sells chunks of that Celtic pattern embossed leather from time to time. It's good quality tooling leather and the pieces ran around $11 each - which isn't too bad considering what just plain strap leather pieces will cost. Dye them the color you like, add the clips, buckles (or not), some finish and you're good to go. The eBay seller is "brent211".
I split them and stuck a buckle in the middle, figuring that I might need to adjust them from time to time, but seeing the results in my photo, that is probably a waste of time and money, and a plain, fixed length strap with no buckle-bulge in the back would probably do just fine.

I just went to goodwill and prowled around the ladies belts, found one for $2 and I absolutely love it, I'll take a picture of it.....

Clever idea! Just an issue of getting a nice 'hang' I suppose.
