Given that you have a wide er than normal kilt belt, you may also consider wearing your sporran a touch closer to the waist then the typical hands breath below the buckle. Just a thought...

Does this help?
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

It does - thanks. I am still of the opinion that the kilt is riding slightly low (this is all from my very newbie and unofficial opinion) but it looks to me like the belt is at the right height relative to the kilt.

Of course, the theological question that goes with that is, "Did Adam and Eve have belly-buttons?"

To my eye your belt is being worn a wee bit too low. Try running it level with the top of your kilt or just covering it. Of course you may have to cinch it in a bit as it will have a tendency to slip at the front.

The obvious answer, I suppose, is that the belt should be worn at "the natural waist".
Due to the "rise" of the kilt above the natural waist, some of the kilt would be showing, unless the kilt had a very low rise, the belt was very wide, or (more likely) the wearer is wearing their kilt too low, shoved down round the hips like blue-jeans.
Coming from traditional kilt-wearing, it would look like this, a kilt with a "rise" above the waist, and the belt worn at the waist:

Myself, I rarely wear a belt. Usually I'm wearing a waistcoat, but even without a waistcoat the belt is unnecessary
