Pun not intended?
Both look real good, but I like ^^that^^ idea.

To my colorblind eye the top pic (pleated to the brown stripe) doesn't look quite as nice as the bottom pic (pleated to the brown stripe)
As others have mentioned, the only opinion that counts is your missus'
Because admiring your own hind end requires twisting around which untucks your shirt (not a good look) or staring at your rump in a mirror (too vain) I would let your wife decide the pleating and then you better get to work, lots of sewing needs to be done!

I do like the looks of this one but I guess I would have to use a full sett for each pleat? I only have a little more than 6 1/2 yards as the initial plan was to pleat to the red and yellow stripes which is 1/2 a sett per pleat, with the full sett per pleat I get 16 one inch pleats as opposed to 32 half inch pleats. The same amount of material but visually different.

I like the top pic, but feel that it's a little loud. The bottom one keeps the main colours and thus coordinates with the rest of the kilt.

That is the best one yet IMO.

I think that I would use a "modified" ketchup and mustard pleating: instead of centering the pleats on the red and yellow stripes, pick the stripe color you like best, and alternate that stripe's pleats with pleats centered on the brown beside the other stripe. You'll still get two pleats per sett, but it will make the back if the kilt much less busy. Almost a cross between ketchup and mustard and lawn chair.

I prefer the second option and then Steve's suggestion. May I inquire as to where this version of the lovely tartan is from? Locharon or Dalgliesh? I ask because I really wanted Stewart Weathered for my kilt but could find no good images of the actual swatches. I ended up going with MacLeod of Harris Weathered, which I like, but perhaps not as much as yours! Good luck with it.

This is strome from Lochcarron, I'm very happy with it. I think it will be my favorite of all my kilts when it's done

Very interesting idea here's what it looks like
That also gave me this idea
It's fairly light though, I kinda miss the black. This is getting complicated, I started with two choices now I have five, it's not getting easier.
