Does a red paisley vest go with a wallace kilt?

- UNTUCK the vest (that's just wrong)
- The satin should only be worn for an evening event. So if it's for an evening event great, otherwise no to satin during the day.
-The belt buckle & Red Satin is too much bling (less is more) so change the buckle. Or as others suggested forget the belt altogether under the UNtucked vest.
- If possible change to a sporran strap rather than hangers, it's just looks better overall.
Otherwise I quite like the red vest & Wallace kilt.

With a kilt with that much red in it, I myself wouldn't wear a red vest, or socks. There's enough red in the kilt already.

An unpleasant colour-shift thing can happen when two colours aren't quite the same, like a navy blue suit where the pants and jacket are two different shades of navy blue. It's more jarring when various hues of red, orange, yellow, or purple are involved.

Also, I've never been a fan of Paisley in general, and with Highland Dress in particular. Or polka dots, or zigzags, or pretty much any strong pattern.

I could see a black fabric with a subtle black-on-black pattern (paisley or otherwise) working fine with that kilt.

As a general rule, I would not be the guy to ask. I just do not care for paisley designs. But in the photo, I really do not notice the design. So, I think it is fine.

The vest does not look paisley to me. Paisley is usually multi-colored. This looks more matte-on-shiny, probably silk damask or silk jacquard.

I have been researching Wallace, since that's my husband's grandmother's name.

I concur about untucking the vest. I'd also like to see what it'd look like with a black shirt, black hose and red flashes. I personally look terrible in red since I am so red myself, but often use is as an accoutrement, and think you could do the same in balancing the red with more black.

My second thought is, if you like it, do it - I'm a big proponent of "whatever makes you happy" ( I often run races kilted, and wear my kilts with sandals in the summer), BUT, since you asked for opinions, you got one. 😁

Personally? I love paisley waistcoats. And tartan waistcoats. And matte waistcoats. And... Well, I'm a waistcoat junkie, I suppose. I think paisley waistcoats look fantastic with kilts. However, waistcoats should (as has been beaten to death already) not be tucked in any more than any other type of coat. Also, I personally am a fan of mixing hot and cold colors- a predominantly red kilt with a blue or purple paisley waistcoat for example. And I don't like shiny metal, so if it were me, I would wear a pewter belt buckle. BUT!! That's just my own personal taste. It looks like a well thought out, well put together outfit. Roll with it.

For me personally it's not a look I would go for there is just too much red for me. That is only my opinion though, if you like it that is all that matters, go for it. Mind you after a few single malts or the odd Vera Lynn my face would be as red as my outfit lol.
