For what it is worth, I might suggest that you get a 4 or 6 yard. This would be less cumbersome (?!) than a full 8 yard, if it is for lounging around.

I agree with Colin that you will find the Bear kilts quite nice. The PV is very convenient. Wash, dry, shake and wear.
You may want to take a look at the grizzly cut if you are into comfort and something a little different.
Jimmy swears by his.
(Not my thing though.)

Ain't THAT the truth?!! And everywhere I go, I get incredible comments on the thing! It's so original, yet holds the traditional appeal. Of the 18 kilts that I have, it's the one that gets the most attention. Everyone knows what a kilt looks like... and then they see the double-fringed apron with the tapered hold. The thing's just awesome!
It has the "backwoods" appeal, while it still is most definately a kilt. And... you can't beat the craftsmanship that's put into the things!
How that guy can make poly-viscose hang like that is amazing. No puckers or fly-aways. It's an art!

Well here's my two cents. I am very happy with all my PV Kilts for all the reasons that have been put forth so far. As for the debate of 4 yard to 8 yard, well in my opinion the 8 yard is the way to go. Not that there is anything wrong with a 4 yard I just find that I enjoy the feel of the 8 yard, even for just lounging in. Oh ya my 8 yard Kilts are nearer to 12 yard (and that's not taken up in the waist, it's in the very deep pleats)and I find it very comfortable in all conditions.
You will have a few of Bear's Kilts to look at Sept 4th, but remember they all start looking better the more drinks you get in you.

I have a few kilts, and my Kinloch-Anderson Breacan would be my favorite were it to fit a tad better. I've lost weight since I bought and even though I've had it altered, it's still not just right.
I have a Hillwalker model from Alex Malcolm and it has now become my favorite for wearing out-n-about. It has the traditional 3-buckle design and just oozes quality.
But the kilt that gets the most wear is my Amerikilt hiking model. It's VERY comfy. Wrinkle resistant. Looks great -- very masculine. I have a Utilikilt too but I hardly ever wear it. To me, it looks 'butch' rather than masculine. I know that's a subtle difference but it's there. The UK looks like a more girly garment all done up (with snaps and pockets) to give it some butch attitude. The AK is flat-out masculine.

IF you have a digital camera, and some time in the near future, could you PLEASE post some pictures of the Hiking AmeriKilt in the AmeriKilt forum?
I've tried to explain the thing to those that haven't had the chance to see one at the Festivals... and it JUST doesn't do them justice.
Innovative, simple and nice! You don't have to take pictures of you in it, necessarily, as long as the guys can see the belt, the side-hanging posket, and the overall pleating. Thanks in advance!

Bear's 4/8 Yard P/V kilts can't be beat. I have a 4 yard right now and waiting for my 8 yard Maple Leaf. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
