I have not had a chance to wear mine as I do consider them a formal addition, but, I did prepare myself with several colors of laces, and plan on adding fancy bead caps to the terribly boring tassels...

The question was not if you like them

The initial post here was about how we tie our ghillie brogues. Sure he acknowledged that some don't like them, but he was looking for ideas. I don't think the "I hate ghillie brogues" comments are helpful or needed here.
I also follow the video on the USA Kilts website.

I tie mine in the front, at the height six twists of the laces provides. Probably about an inch and a half.
I totally agree with Bob C.....Usually the comments on this site show a great deal of respect for each other and each other's opinions.... no matter how much they differ......this thread asks for advice not opinions .... sometimes people think opinions and advice is the same thing......I don't believe they are......but that is just my opinion

Low and to the side. Usually not perfectly to the side... slightly forward of 90 degrees from front. Hard to tell from this pic since it's a crop of one from far away, and my feet aren't in parallel; the knots look closer to the front than they are. Usually 5-6 twists in front, and 3-4 in the back.

Mostly, I wear a pair of normal wing-tips or oxfords, but occasionally I get a whim to wear my ghillie brogues. I tie them on the side.

Mine generally are only worn when with the pipe band. They get one twist in front, none in the back, and are double-tied at around 10 and 2 o'clock just above the ankle.
