No need to rush to buy a RRS kilt, there are hundreds floating about and will be as long as the regiment exists. They are everywhere theses days as well as the hair and leather sporrans and if you are patient, you will find an excellent one for yourself. The quality is not the same as it was in the preamalgamation kilts of the antecedent regiments because of cost cutting measures. Good kilts, average quality. A true coloured black watch kilt is going to be harder to come by, but generally all British army kilts run on the smaller size waist size.

Last year during a visit to Kingston I went to a very large "military surplus" store and they had a Royal Highland Regiment of Canada Black Watch kilt in 22oz wool for CAN$300, which is I think about UK200. It was obviously used by the bent and stretched leather straps, but the kilt itself was in very good condition. Once again it is a shame I am carrying a couple inches more than it was made for.

That is what I am looking for. I have only seen one and it was being worn by our sergeant piper.

Aren't they worn a little higher? If they are a couple inches above the belly button, I could do a 36" but it would have to be pretty long. I doubt you would ever see a 36" either.

I've seen some pretty large lads on parade recently, in YouTube videos of the RRS.

So there's hope!

I did actually once see a RRS in my size, almost unheard of, on Ebay, but for some reason I passed on it. I've never seen another that big again.

There have always been the occasional huge people in the army, like Pipe Major Jimmy Anderson of The Black Watch, on the left.

You'd think bigger would turn up on occasion, 20ish years ago Swiss army trench coats seemed to be readily available, haven't looked into availability since, but I had no problem turning up a coat with a 48" chest for myself and a 52" chest for my dad. Did have to look through a lot of 34-38" chest sizes to locate them but it seemed about one in ever 20 or so was in the 40s. 21 years later it turned out to be one of the best 20.00 I've ever spent as I still wear it and fit it just like the day I got it. Can't imagine the average Scot is that much smaller then the average Swiss; its not like they're average Americans

I believe I have the same RRS kilt as Issac and it fits similarly. I purchased it via a shop in Co. Armagh a year ago and I like it plenty. I also would echo the recommendation that if you wait, you won't lose out. I would caution to be careful with measurements as mine is really built for a man an inch taller than I am -- consequently, I have to wear it a bit higher than I'd like to achieve the desired top-of-knee-cap bottom.
