I'm overwhelmed be your kind remarks everyone,

Rufus,I can say that there is plenty of room for my wallet ,car keys (Large karabiber fob)coin wallet and mobile a z600 so not too large. I haven't the largest of hands so fully open I can retrieve the most things with ease. I have sewn it as I've said without a gusset (piece between front and back). So I'm making one more even larger.

I have two other sporrans a seal skin dress sporran which you can see in my gallery and a black leather day sporran with celtic knot work on it. That is also in my gallery but not so clear. The biggest gripe is I find they don't open wide enough for retrieval and space is limited so I feel that I cram things in and force it shut.

    So I made my own......

Ps I use this site for inspiration

Amen David! I'm always fighting with the stuff that I put in my sporran. I can usually get my wallet, mobile phone, and keys in there, but it seems like I have to completely readjust when I try to put something back. The flap on mine stays open most of the time just because I give up.

So, I'm all about bigger sporrans.

I just recently purchased a dress sporran and was surprised at how little room there is inside. I suppose they were designed more for show and not for practicality. Your homemade sporran has much more carrying capacity. I do think it would be fun sometime to try making a sporran based on the dress model. I would be inclined to make the cantle out of exotic wood rather than metal. Burl maple or cocobo or rosewood perhaps. I would need to find a source for leather with the fur still on it. My siamese cat perhaps.

A small piece of exotic african hardwood will no doubt cost over $25. I don't know what pelt leather goes for... I think light colored fur preferable though if the cantle was cut from ebony or cocobo. How about a matching fur belt and polished brass buckle... or is that too "Fred Flintstone"?

What about your gray cat that sits around in your underwear smoking? He looks like he's been naturally "stretched out" so you should be able to get a sporran or two out of him.

Well Lads, It's finally finished . My sporran from the Thompson book, There are a few mods to the design.

My mate Sten-Rune and I have been working on the new improved design. This sporron is sewn without a gusset between front and back pieces. We are also putting the finisher on one with a black lid and gusset. I must say that it's really big.

The one in the picture has quite a capacity without a gusset. I get my wallet. car keys and, cell phone in easily. The large version will aslo accomodate a camera. We are also trying to make a kind of organiser sporran .That is a little way off. At the mo' we are trying different colours aswell. An example would be with deep green gusset or/and lid. With a brown main body. This would give it a little more Irish look. I get tried of seeing cheap looking sporrans on internet sites So decided if I wanted a sporran which is usable then the best way is to do it yourself.

We've never done this kind of thing before so it has taken somtime to get a result we were happy with. If any of you are thinking about it I can help you. I'm no Rudi. However I have to start somewhere.

The pic's are in my gallery BTW.
