I also have Co Tyrone in my background (on my Mother's side) in addition to Co Fermanagh (on my Father's). I too am tracing my genealogy and finding many many holes.

As you can probably tell by reading the posts here we all take kilt wearing very seriously. And am glad that you want to become kilted more frequently which is what I experienced. We have many wonderful kiltmakers that post on this board and the prices all vary. Check them out and do not hesitiate to ask for imput from us, it will be given.

BTW where in Virginia do you live, I have a cousin on my Mother's side who lives in Falls Church are you anywhere near there?

    Again WELCOME!
I actually live in Hopewell Va at present. Hopewell is about 25 miles southeast of Richmond. Falls Church is near DC and thus about 100 miles north of me.

I want to warn you, the place is contagious and VERY addictive. I've been here but a few days and am suffering from lack of sleep, reading all there is to be found.

The lads here are all a personable lot and I hope you enjoy yourself here as much as I have.

    Peace,
    Mike
I am already finding this place to be addictive, and I've only been a mamber since this morning. And yes, everyone here does seem to be very nice.

    Hi Jerry!

I've been doing some genealogy lately too, and found relatives from Co. Armagh. It looks like they're most likely Ulster-Scots.

Todd (episcopalscot) posted this great website about the Ulster-Scots, so I thought I'd share it again...

    Welcome to the forum, Jerry!

I too have roots that go back to County Tyrone. I'm also trying to find out more about my ancestry. I've gotten as far as my grandfather, whom was born in Castlederg, and emmigrated to the U.S. I do know that my family is a sept of the Gunn Clan, but that's about as far as I've gotten.

I've gotten as far back as my maternal great grand parents. My great grandmother was (I don't know if this is the right term) head mistress of Killyman school. The other item I have is my uncles birth certificate from Dungannon, County Tyrone. These great grandparents were Farrels my great grandmother was Mary Jane Farrel. I seem to have hit a road block at this point. I'm sure I still have living relatives over there, but have so far been unable to locate any

Welcome Jerry. I have been lurking for a few months abd I am just starting to post a bit...

I was adopted by some great parents who consider themselves to be of the German persuation. My adoption certificate lists Scottish, Polish, Scandanavian, and Russian as my nationalities...

Every since Braveheart and Rob Roy I have felt mostly Scottish. I doubt a movie with a strong Polish hero is about to come out and challenge my loyality.

I can't trace my heritege very easily (and wouldn't out of respect for my parents) but I feel comfortable wearing any Tartan (as long as a know a little about their history) because there is a small chance I am wearing the colors of my ancestors.

    Again welcome,
    Atticus
