Or again, he can wear Black Watch with his Sutherland regalia, as we use it as of our clan tartans (Sutherland Hunting) as well. But I digress.

Actually, there is historical provenance of Clan nobility wearing multiple clan articles at one time, much to the chagrin of the modern kilt police. One prime example was the Chief of clan Wemyss, who's mother was the only daughter of the then Earl of Sutherland. Not only did he wear the accouterments of both clans, he went so far as to carpet the entire castle of Wemyss with the Sutherland tartan. Of course many will be aware that it was Gen. William Wemyss of Wemyss who raised the Sutherland Highlanders regiment.

I own both models within my kilt "hoard", so I will endeavor to help you based on my own opinions and experiences.

The Stillwater Heavyweight Wool kilt is going to feel, look, and weigh more like a traditional kilt, but neither it nor the USA Kilts P/V casual kilt are constructed in the traditional manner. Fit will be about the same for both. These off the rack kilts fit better on those who's hips and waist dimensions are not drastically different, as they tend to fit rather straight up and down. That works fine with me, as I have rather slim hips. Especially compared to by beer barrel waist.

Neither have canvas interfacing, or excess pleat material cut away at the back hip area unlike traditional kilts. The pleats are just folded and machine sewn down up to the waist. The Stillwater kilt has more material and deeper pleats more in line with the traditional kilt. Again, there is a BIG difference between the weight and feel of Poly Viscose vs. 16oz wool (or thereabouts), as well as the way the kilt hangs and swishes. Especially when comparing a 5 yard kilt with an 8 yard one. All things to consider.

Given these two options, I think that for your purposes, I would personally go with the Stillwater Heavyweight Wool kilt. The price is roughly in the same ballpark, and the Stillwater is closer to a traditional design that is more appropriate for a wedding function in the minds of most.

I was looking around on eBay and found this kilt you might want to look into. I have not ordered a kilt from this firm but have ordered an Argyll jacket and was pleased with the jacket the shipping and the customer service. The package got to my door in 3 days from Glasgow to Toronto.

No, just their 8 yard heavyweight wool. I think the Economy version wool kilt you are talking about is basically the same, but using less yardage to keep the cost down.

Like Glen, I have had really good success with Kilts-4-Less as well, although again it is with jackets and accouterments. I haven't purchased a kilt from them, but the Sutherland 8 yarder he posted a link for looks very promising.

I'm glad to hear that, you do know where to come for advice on the accessories at least.
