A few shirt and ties yes but not a lot of full suits.
Why not just wear the kilt with a shirt and tie then? With solid hose and plain dress shoes.
It would be simple but still look dressed up.

I am sorry, but I really cannot understand your thinking here and please, I am not trying to be contentious.
You are wanting to wear the kilt and kilt hose which appears to be way out of your normal attire and fair enough. However you have been given advice by many here that puts you, as near as damn, in the kilt equivalent of what you and others would normally wear to the coming event and you still think that the suggested kilt attire is still not laid back enough. Which leads me to wonder if you really want to wear the kilt at all.

Alright, then lets go!
Surely wearing a tartan(your tartan?) kilt in Canada is adding your own touch? With the addition of say for example, claret hose and blue flashes----- and please, please, please, avoid the boots------ are you not adding to that? With a shirt and drop down tie, both of which are also multi choice. Then what else do you need?
Good luck laddie!

Absolutely no boots with a kilt for a social occasion. All best to ya'!

Until I just checked had no idea what claret was. I like them. It's more my wife that wants the boots. I was just going to borrow some dress shoes. What color tie should I go with? And would a black vest be ok? Thanks everyone.

NO boots!!!!! With the tie, anything you like as long as it does not match anything major and the black vest is well, OK.

Here are a couple of photos that might help illustrate what I think would work perfectly for a not so formal wedding

or with a waistcoat

As you can see most any colour works with most any tartan, it doesn't need to match.
I hope this helps.

I wouldn’t choose a black necktie. I think of that as being more of a funeral thing.
