Very happy for all the Buchanans! We of Clan Douglas have two gentlemen- to my understanding- that could claim the Chief title, but they both defer to each other for various reasons, so still no chief since 1761.

Having now had an opportunity to examine a specimen of the tartan, rather than relying on trying to interpret Press photographs, it’s clear that the ‘so-called’ Buchanan of Leny is the same as your tartan. What appeared to be a plain green square is in fact bisected by a green stripe.
This sett dates to 1850 and Smibert’s The Clans of the Highlands of Scotland where it was simply named Buchanan. It is therefore not unique to the new chief.
