It's not that I'm encountering a problem, it's that I've noticed something that confuses me: the smaller-yardage box-pleated kilt seems to stay down more than the heavier 5 yard knife pleat.

The apron is the same in both and in both it would be the front not the back which is most susceptible to the Marilyn Monroe effect.

True if your sporran is 2 feet square and filled with lead shot.😉
My experience is the the wind catches the apron on either side of the sporran (or the sides) rather than the pleats, hence my advice to simply hold your arms to your sides in the wind.

Greetings... I, too have experienced the Marilyn Effect. But not in the best of places, eh? Our old church, Saint Mary's Anglican in Windsor, is blessed with these manhole cover sized HVAC gratings in the floor. Some are round and some are square. There is one right in front of the communion rail... I stepped over the grate to get to the rail and the blasted A/C flipped on right then. All through the service, no A/C. The two kilted dudes in the congregation come to the rail and... A/C! Were it not for my cat-like reflexes, the Archdeacon would have been front and centre for the answer to the inevitable question, much to her and my, embarrassment. As it was... she was blushing brightly enough to be seen from space. And, my wife is still ribbing Bruce (my partner in kiltish behaviour) and me mercilessly. Bruce's wife was also bright red.
