I think you'll find wearing it pretty much a positive reception

Welcome
Welcome from a Georgian who once lived in Moses Lake, Wash. The highland games are a great place to venture out kilted for the first time...........sort of blending in.
Cheers,
David

Welcome from a Scotsman living in the English midlands. I was a bit apprehensive when I first wore a kilt south of the (Scottish) border, but receptions have been overwhelmingly positive!

I'll look for proud kilt-wearers next time I'm on that side of the border. Who knows, I might be one myself by then, too!
I used to work on the TEV Princess Marguerite when it did the Seattle-Victoria run, so I have spent many a pleasant evening in Seattle!

Oh my, that's a blast from the past. A shame that service ended. The Clippers aren't nearly as "interesting" and indeed I almost never take them, preferring one of the three ferry services - BC Ferries, WA State Ferries, or Blackball.

That's a good point about a delicate "first step" by going somewhere that will hopefully be filled with fellow kilt wearers.

The thing that would worry me more, south of the border, is having my money accepted.
It is amazing the number of times that ignorant Englishmen (and women) will stare perplexedly at a Scottish banknote as if seeing it for the first time, and then refuse to accept it. Ugh.

It is an awesomely complicated process isn't it. Getting a kilt is merely the start of the process, not the end! As I'm now discovering. Belts. Buckles. Sporrans. Sporran belt (chain or leather). Shoes. Socks.
And that's before moving on to shirts, jackets, caps, and so on.
