Big Paul, I'm as pleased as punch to hear that you ordered a pair of hose from Victoria at Almost Unwearoutable -- did you get one colour, or did you go for the those with the near patterns on the tops?
I have two pairs of Victoria's socks, and they are the BEST kilt hose I have ever owned, bar none. Some of her testimonials talk about tearing the hose on wire fences whilst walking on the moors -- our cat's scratching is equivalent to those fences, and the hose hold up very well indeed!
Now if I could just convince her to knit the dress tartan hose!

I notice on the Almost Unwearoutable web site they picture a kilt hanging with a sporran on backwards. I'll forgive them, since the kilt isn't being worn.

Sorry to sound like Ebenezer Scrooge, but I just have trouble paying $70.00 or more for a pair of socks.
Maybe for a wedding outfit, if I were getting married, but not for regular wear, or even dress wear.

The whole definition of being frugal is to buy the best money can buy, so it will last forever, Doc. I'd much rather spend $70 (all dependent on the exchange, of course) on a pair of their socks & have them last for a long time than keep replacing the cheaper pairs every couple of years.

Trust me, I was choking too. I just didn't have a lot of choices.. I will keep hunting for cheaper alternatives such as soccer socks. So we'll have to see..

Well...I'm trying to do a little reserach on socks, looking for inexpensive, yet practical socks, and I found this site:

Might be worth a try.
