confirmation...
I would prefer the term "confirmation", as in "confirming myself"...I have always been of Scottish heritage, and always made well aware of my ancestry by my mother & grandmother -- the day many years ago when I got my first kilt only confirmed who I was and who my people were -- an outward sign of an inward being.
Cheers,
T.

I've just been told by the other half that she just cant get used to me wearing a kilt. Has said that "she married a man not a girl!!!. Is there any hope.
Have been (until now) wearing the kilt as often as I could around the house, noiced some improvements in my health as far as the skin on my legs went. Oh well back to the closet for the kilt I guess, For a hile at least! Damn it i was enjoying the freedom too.Best to keep the peace. Cheers Andrew

Andrew,
Ask her what her definition of a man is. If she says it is someone wearing trousers, get her to look outside to see for herself just who is wearing trousers these days. Also tell her that the Scots have a saying: "A man in a kilt is a man and a half." So if she wants you in trousers, she obvioulsly wants less off a man than if you are kilted.
Let us know her reply.

I wouldn't say I've reinvented myself.
I just feel a lot comfier when I wear a kilt.
But I find that personally when I wear my kilt, my stride is probably a bit more comfident, my chest sticks about a bit more, I'm really swelling with pride to be wearing something so individual, so proud in its history (and so comfy!). I'd say that wearing my kilt is a bit of a self-confidence boost, regardless of what people might say about it.

Get ye to Blockbusters and rent "Braveheart". Mel Gibson has a powerful effect on women, like it or not. Better to embrace that other man's mojo and leverage his garb in that movie to help show that a kilt is a manly mode of dressing.

If I have reinvented myself then I have done so unwittingly. Funnily enough, two friends whom I have known for many years have separately told me that, since taking to kilt wearing full time, I have "reinvented" myself. One is a 'Life Coach' and wants to use me as an example in a Course she is running!!
They say that I am a much more confident, stronger and open person, that I walk tall and that I am less concerned than I was about what others might think of me. I have to admit that it does feel like that!
Virtually all of my life, I have paid more attention to what others might think of me than what I think of myself. I have worked hard at fitting into what the 'Establishment' expected of me, and to toeing the lines laid down.
That was due, no doubt, to my upbringing and my education and to the social circles I inhabited (and still do).
Although I have now, to a greater extent, broken out of that mould, I am still very much concerned by what other people might think of me, and how they might 'see' me. My appearance in public places is still of great importance to me and I go to a great deal of trouble (and expense) to ensure that I am always well turned out - uncrumpled, polished, pressed, clean and colour co-ordinated.
Maybe that is vanity; I prefer to think of it as consideration for others.

Hamish, you wear kilts all the time? No trousers at all?
I'm jealous of you... I wish I had that sort of courage!

That's very cool. Something I think I might want to shoot towards when I'm older. It definately will take some work, though!
