Curious about difference between different brands

If you're looking for a tartan kilt that will last, look good, and not cost you a fortune... there's really only three choices.

BearKilts: poly-viscose kilts that come in a variety of styles and tartans. I have the Grizzly cut since it's amazingly original and REAL good looking. They are from Canada.

StillWater Kilts: are a little more "traditional" looking, but you'll need to do some apron altering to make it presentable. The cost will allow the altering.

USAKilts: a variety of tartans and styles. Price won't break you and the quality will survive parties.

SportKilts: are a costume. There are TOO MANY good kilt companies out there for you to waste you money here.

That's the skinny on the affordable tartans from companies with any real selection.

Can any of the tartan ones go into a washing machine, or no? I'd like something that I can clean up relatively easily.

You can definately toss Bear or Stillwater Kilts to the washer. I have done it before.

Dylan, I recommend USAKilts, I have a navy blue Victory Kilt from them that I wear to work everyday running a cafe. They have a traditional profile but a modern flare and they come standard with a hidden pocket in one the pleats, a back pocket and a key clip, very handy, they can also add a sporran and a detachable right pocket if you want.

BearKilts and USAKilts that are not wool are ready to wash. Stillwater Kilts say to dry clean.

I can HIGHLY recommend Bear and USAK. I own multiples of both.

As for SportKilts... you'll see what I mean as you see more of the others' kilts.

I'm kind of biased on Tartan kilts , but if you want to check out a cool solid kilt, take a good hard look at Steve from freedom kilts. I've been checking out his kilt recently and they're pretty darn cool.
