My mistake, actually. I had thought I had seen some "unfeathered" Chiefs, however, the feathers were just not readily apparent in the angle of the shot.
There are some unfeathered Balmorals, but I'm not sure who these individuals are and they may be Games officials, etc.

Some Clan Chief wear their feathers as part of the crest, with the three feathers cast as part of the crest..

I thought this thread was to be strictly "photos only" not lengthy discussions on some other subject?

Quite right Phil, it was meant to be mostly photos, though it seems people would rather discuss black shoes and brown sporrans, or feathers or lack thereof. Nevertheless for my part I will continue to try to steer this thread back to it's intended purpose.

This is a cracking thread. He is effortlessly stylish. Whether it's effortless because he has teams of valets or because he's just good at kilts, I don't know, but it's a joy to see either way.
I'm not sure if this picture from the 2009 Braemar Gathering has been posted already, but I'm putting it up for two reasons. One, because it's another instructive "Charlie Shows Us How To Wear The Kilt" photie, and two, because I happened to be passing through Braemar that afternoon on my way back from a couple of days in the Cairngorms.
Just as I got to the town, the police waved my car to a halt and told me I'd have to wait until the parade passed. I sat and watched the road on my right, from whence the massed pipe bands that I was expecting were bound to come. But it wasn't a pipe band. It was HRH's Daimler (or Bentley, or whatever he gets driven around in) which drew to a halt at the junction, waiting for the police to escort him onwards. So, I'm staring at him. And then he waves at me. So I waved back. And then I got distracted because I was listening to the Scotland V Macedonia football match on the radio, and Scott Brown scored.
Oops. It's supposed to be pictures only, isn't it.

WARNING: COMMENT, NOT PHOTO
I read somewhere of people who wish to downplay their relative wealth, or at least not to show it off- how a family might have several identical or similar cars which could easily be assumed to be just one. If we look carefully, HRH has one sporran with a metal cantle and one without, though otherwise they are very similar. Or maybe he has seven of each...

The Shoes
This shows a pair of shoes worn by the duke:
I read that he owns and wears a pair he had made 40 years ago by J. Lobb in London who only charges about £2500 or so. Apparently--if the author is to be believed--the duke only purchases very high quality clothing but wears them forever.
I rather like the idea of doing that!
Here's the site. http://parajr.blogspot.com/2009/05/o...ow-prince.html I hope it's not some goofball site that panders to conspiracy theories and espouses a Jacobite uprising or thinks aliens are in control or . . .

Just a quick note here. GBP2500 over 40 years is GBP62.50 per year or, roughly USD or CAD100. Is there a single member reading this who does not spend at least that much each and every year on his footwear? Perhaps what is far more important, at the end of the year, how many of us are still wearing our shoes of yesteryear? Should we not admire Wales for his ability to in comfort and familiarity wear shoes he had made 20 and 30 years ago

I agree, it makes good sense. I have the same philosophy. I purchase the best I can afford, and use shoe trees along with regular polishings to keep them at their best. Dress shoes also get a rubber traction sole added to the leather sole. The longest I was able to get out of a pair of dress shoes, was a pair of Ballys, they lasted twenty years. I suspect the current two pair in my closet will last longer than that, since I am no longer in the suit and tie world.
This is a great thread. Prince Charles is an excellent example of a kilted gentleman. It would have been nice to study something like this back when I first started wearing the kilt. It would have given more of a direction to my purchases (and probably saved money to boot.)
