Miss R saw the doc for a follow-up after the swelling went down on Monday. He put her in a walking boot cast which she'll wear for a month with the hope that the partial tear of the main ligament will heal on its own. If it doesn't, then she's probably looking at surgery. The boot really gets in the way of her fashion look which she definitely does not appreciate.

Squat day coming 'round once again. Best day of the week. And, after the last couple of disappointing squat sessions, this one felt good. Warmed up with bike, abs, goblets, good mornings with the bar. Then with the squats I started with 5 reps at 155, 185, 205, and 225; a set of 3 at 245 and 255; set of 2 at 260, and 2 singles at 265. Cooled on the bike; over and out.

Nice. Squat Day is my favorite day, as well. My lower back doesn't like Deadlift Day nearly as much.

I was shot clock guy again for daughter's bball game. Games aren't normally on Mondays, but this week it was different. So...
Tomorrow I'll be back in the gym.
Saturday I was on my feet from about 3:30 until about 11:00 for Burns Night; my brothers and I have been doing this for about 15 years or so and it's always a great time. But Sunday I was stiff as a board from all the standing and exhausted, hence recovery day.

Isn't it funny how much of a hit the body takes just standing around?
It's good to listen to your body and act accordingly.

The absolute, no-holds-barred tiredest and sorest I have ever been after a Games was the evening after pulling tape for the lasses at Queen Mary last year. Oh, yeah.....back cramps, yuck. It was awful, hurt like the dickens, and my throwing the next morning was absolutely horrible. I loosened up by midafternoon, in time for sheaf and caber, but gaaaaaa....

Squat night and the gym was a zoo. People crawling all over the weight room; people I've never seen in the weight room before this evening. Fortunately I secured a rack after a good warm up on the bike, shoulder routine, a few goblets, good mornings, and Bob's your uncle.
I did sets of 5 at 155, 185, 205; set of 3 at 225 and 245. I did a set of 2 at 255 and shut it down early after a final set of 3 at 225.
A couple of weeks ago I got a new pair of shoes - general training shoes with enough cushioning for light running. However, I've sensed in the last few sessions that they are too soft for squatting. For some reason, I really felt it this evening. When I got up to 245 and 255, I didn't feel stable enough so I stopped to be on the safe side. Before I do this again I'm going to get Chuck Taylors or perhaps a pair of wrestling shoes - something with thin, flat soles to provide solid footing. I've considered going barefoot, but I've tried it before and didn't feel comfortable. So, I'll adjust and move forward.

You might want to invest in some actual weightlifting shoes, Marty.
Check out VSAthletics.com where I got mine. They changed everything for me. Amazon is also a good place to look as well.

Thanks for the tip, Kit. I'm going to check several different types of shoes that may work; I'll definitely come up with a better alternative.
Bench night this evening. Didn't sleep well last night and it had an impact in this session. After warmups I kept it light and went for speed with about 6 sets of 5 with 135; then pec deck 3 fast sets; bike, abs, and stretch to finish.
Taking a broader view, I think it's time to shake up the routine and re-focus. I've been doing this basic strength sequence since November and have made good progress. But over the next several days I'm going to give serious thought to re-tooling. Most likely more speed oriented sessions given that the season approaches.
What I really want, though, is for daylight savings to get here so that after work throwing sessions are an option.
