It would be fun if i could! Is the address 550 El Rancho Dr, Santa Cruz, CA 95060?
Oh and Rattlesnake Glen. Every Thursday 4-sunset right now (when the sun stays up longer we'll go 5-dark). You are all welcome up this way, anytime, too!

The park is off of El Rancho but it's at the end of short street off of El Rancho - Repetta - which deadends at a gate and the beginning of a steep dirt road leading down to the park. It isn't a place you stumble upon; you have to know where to go.

Quick easy loosening up session after the throwing yesterday. Tomorrow will be something a bit more intense. Peace out.

Tragedy in Santa Cruz closed off the part of town where my gym is located. A shoot out with three deaths, two of them police officers. Bad, bad situation.
I went to Shaffer Park instead hoping to get some work in before dark. It went well and I will continue with evening throw sessions a couple of times during the week from here on out. I got in a good hour of throwing, focusing on hammer and caber.

After mentally reviewing last night's hammer and caber session I'm sensing that I'm making some progress.
With the hammers, it's encouraging that my preseason distances are a good ten feet longer that at this time last year. And, the specific points I'm working on seem to be paying off - more speed, better balance, longer extension, etc. My primary focus now is my release. I think I'm choking off distance by getting tense at the release point. Next session I'm going to make an effort to really relax my arms and throw with my hips, if that makes sense.
I tossed the Little Iron yesterday about 8-10 times. It's a good practice caber because even though it's relatively short - about 13ft - it weighs about 85lbs. Thus, tossing it a fair number of times is a real workout. It's clear that my lifting over the past few months has paid off because I'm much stronger than last year and it's reflected in how much easier it is to get a good lift on this short, heavy stick. Reps on this caber is lifting weights in a very caber specific manner.

That's sjust a nightmare, the Branciforte disaster. My heart goes out to those families.
How the hell a convicted felon, who served prison time was able to actually REGISTER guns, including a Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistol is beyond my comprehension, but he did, according to the Sentinel report.
This never, ever should have happened.

We need to get you guys a 17 foot long, 60 pounder. I'll try to remember to get the saw in the truck and we can go eucalyptus-hunting after we're done throwing on Sunday.
The steel stick for strength, the 17 footer for timing. You WILL turn some cabers this year.

Got to the gym yesterday and after warm ups I cut it off - felt rotten and concerned that I was coming down with the crud that's going around. Fortunately it was only allergies kicking up. Today will be a rest day; my wife and I are going to a local theatre performance - one my gym buddies has a part in it and he gave us tickets. Tomorrow I'll throw after work.

Light throwing yesterday - a lot of wfd drills working on staying in the trig and not fouling. I have to dial this in over the next few weeks. Also a good amount of winding, no throws. And some caber work. I didn't want to overdo it.
Clan Geezer is doing a simulated game at Shaffer Park tomorrow afternoon to see where we stand going into the season. Today I'll go light as well so I'll be fresh for tomorrow.

Throwing all afternoon at Shaffer with Alan, Gman, Steve Elliott, Jay Cobb, and Tony Salerno. We did a simulated game with Braemar, Open, hwfd, lwfd, hammers, and cabers. Good work and we ran out of gas by the end. More throwing neededed before the games really start.
