    (I won't be offended if you've a one-word answer to this question. )
    No.

    O C Richard.

I was actually talking civilian wear here. However, yes you are right, military bands can and do mix tartans. Usually to remember the modern day regiment's amalgamations and roots. The Skye pipe band, as are, I think, all pipe bands , is again based very loosely on the military, so perhaps they a demonstrating their roots too, I don't know. They may well be wearing a different tartan of the SAME clan and that would be quite correct, but in all honesty I know nothing of their history or tradition. If you want to find pictures ot the Atholl Highlanders you will see at least three different versions of the same tartan being proudly worn. Again though, we are talking military and not pure civilian.

    LOL - that's a serious accusation mon!

In all seriousness, IIRC, Jocks tie is the regimental tie of the Household Division. Presumably the unit he served in in HM Armed Forces.

    Regards,

Don't think so mate. I am quite positive it is a regimental necktie of what battalion, guard, branch, regiment, etc, I am unsure of. I own several authentic, Scottish regimental neckties that I wear with my Highland attire for daywear. Even though I am an American by birth, and served my own country as a U.S. Marine, I honor the Scottish regiments and those brave men who fought, and who are still fighting, by wearing several different regimental neckties with my kilt (to include a USMC regimental stripe necktie!).

But Kyle, you wouldn't wear them in Scotland, I am sure.

Since we have Highlanders discussing Highland attire, I have a question.

What do Highlanders do with their bonnets when they come indoors? Specifically, Balmorals? Do they generally place them on hat racks?

Sadly, a lot of Americans wear their hats indoors, so the idea of hat racks has gone the way of the dodo here. But most non-dress military headwear is crumpled up or rolled up and placed in a pocket or the waistband (or it used to be, anyway) when indoors. I can't imagine Highlanders rolling up a Balmoral and stuffing it in their belt or sporran. So what do they generally do with a Balmoral when they come indoors? I can't figure a good way to keep my Balmoral on my person when wearing a kilt and was hoping for some advice.

I don't know about in Scotland, but back when I was riding with a certain m/c crew who's members were fond of military styled berets, we use to stick them in our jackets epaulets.

Well, if I am in a house I leave my bonnet on a hall table if there is one, or in some convenient place in the hall. If I were to go into a pub, I'd carry my bonnet with me and either put it on the table, or on an empty chair. If I'm wearing a barbour or some form of coat, I might shove the bonnet in a sleeve.
