Thanks!
I originally described the saber as "argent hilted or" but learned from MOR that by default heraldic swords are argent hilted or so it wasn't necessary to specify it. I chose to make the fess and charges or as an allusion to the Cavalry branch color (yellow) but could have just as easily gone with argent in reference to the red and white Cavalry guidons.
I appreciate the assistance of several X-Markers while I was fine tuning my design.

If the sword in the crest is to be diagonal, the wording needed would be in bend.

Mike

For crying out loud, leave off any description of the angle of the sword. You may need it to be any number of angles for any particular illustration. No competent heraldic artist is going to render it in any way other than as it should be for the display.

The Blazon really should read as simple as possible with all of the pertinent information correctly described. And of course, adhereing to the rules of Heraldry.

Ken, there are times when such details are important. This may or may not be such an instance, but I provided the wording in case it was required.

Mike

In the arms depicted above, if it is desired that the point of the sword be raised above the hilt, then the best heraldic option would be to describe the dexter arm as being in bend (a lion's paw erased in bend Or holding a scymitar Argent -- Scrymgeour) , rather than trying to place the wrist in a fairly unnatural position by describing the sword as "per bend point uppermost".

My new assumed arms:
I am hoping to have these arms registered with the Heraldry Society of Louisiana and Pretoria. They were drawn by a fellow Xmarker who shall remain nameless at this time -- unless they wish to come forward.

Very pleasing, Todd.
I like the treatment of the unicorn - it makes a pleasant change.

Lovely arms, CajunScot! I, too, am impressed by the unicorn ermine, and the motto seems especially fitting during this time of extreme drought (assuming my translation is correct). Altogether very fitting - though I'm interested in knowing why you chose an armoured arm for the crest when it is holding a book. It is an interesting juxtaposition.
