For the win? Again I repeat... what the heck does FTW mean? I don't get it in relation to the context!

    for the win
Definition from Wiktionary, the free dictionary

    for the win

    1. (Internet, slang) Of something which completes a process in a successful manner or is of the speaker's personal preference; abbreviated as FTW.

(Sports Announcer) He lines up the shot... and he makes it-- FOR THE WIN!
(Speaker one) Did anyone see the concert last Thursday? (Speaker two) Rammstein ftw! [meaning the speaker preferred Rammstein]

    [edit] Usage notes

More often than not, this phrase is used online and shortened to "FTW". Also, "FTW" is mostly used to indicate a contribution or action taken that one is proud of, even facetiously. Very frequently, the phrase will be used in fragments lacking verbs, eg Good offense ftw

It was 3 A.M. that I entered my earlier post today and had fallen asleep at the keyboard.

Pet peeve: The people that do cross the bridge to the Highlands of New Hampshire, see me with my full kit and pipes, then ask about the skirt.....!! I had one young gent practically chase me around the Clan Village and kept persisting in his quest. I let him keep bothering me until I could point to another kilted gent and advised him that the other gent could better answer his question. The other kilted gent was one of the on duty police officers. The fool actually started to pester the officer, and kind of failed the field sobriety test, and whatever else....

Lesser peeve: The number of young men that purchase only the t-shirt "Real Men Wear Kilts" or similar and wear it with basketball capris, and a belly bag in neon colours.

Back to the raves. As Kilted in Maine, Tullock, Jaeson, CS Cunningham and many others can attest, the Town of Lincoln goes Scottish. Nearly every business hoists the Saltire outside their establishment, and many also display the Lion. All of the accommodations are fully booked by the first of the year for this event, and it is often more profitable for the merchants then the leaf peepers, or the skiers. It seems that the visiting Scots may be tight with their money, but are willing to pay for the top quality establishments, and are too tired by the end of the day to cause any problems. The event is VERY family oriented, and even the younger set that comes to the games respects the community for hosting the event.
The whole Police department is kilted, and some of the locals turn out in fairly reasonable kit as well.

All X-markers are welcome, the admission charge is small, and I am sure that all x-markers will be welcome at Clan Cunningham, and at Clan MacNeil tents.

Sounds like a magical event, Steve. Wish every Highland event could be so 'together'.

It was pretty amazing to watch them- they were so good at it and were obviously friends having a great time!

As to the festival with a complete lack of dancers... that was in Montana. There are more people in my subdivision of Denver than there are in all of Billings! And I'm not exagerating.

It's the kilted unicyclists that bother me the most, not the Irish dancers.

OK, here I have to laugh at something and also admit to something. I have that T-Shirt, and I did wear it without my kilt one day. Now I figured if anyone asked I could honestly say that I do wear a kilt. But then I got a great question at a local deli. The girl behind the counter reads the shirt and asks.......So do you play the bagpipes? Not do I own/wear a kilt, but do I play the pipes. She was almost cute enough to be that dim.

    My biggest peeve

Honestly, I'm pretty ok with whatever anyone wants to do. Pixies, fairies, pirates, vikings, executioners, etc, may be out of place, but it's just people try to have fun. They probably fit in better amongst the tents selling flails, maces, and "stage-quality replicas" of Excalibur than they would on the street. We're all a little bit crazy- their crazy is just a different brand.

There are certain things- long kilts, low sporrans, etc, that can be corrected with a friendly "Hi there! Maybe you should..." Other things maybe not so much.

MY biggest pet peeve is the jerk.

The jerk is a species that comes in all shapes and sizes, wears any and all type of plumage, and struts about while looking for a mate. The jerk attempts to endear itself to the opposite sex by consuming mass quantities of a near-hallucinogenic fluid known as alcohol. Following a grotesque feeding in which bottle after bottle is nursed like the teet of the jerk's mother, the jerk will engage in "feats of strength and stupidity." These feats usually involve breaking anything within arm-length and yelling the obscene mating call of "**** ***, ******!" (expletives deleted). The jerk may also attempt to make itself look better through rituals known as "teasing," "insulting," and perhaps even "fighting." After being offensive to all the senses, one of two outcomes will be rendered unto the jerk:
    1. The jerk will stumble off into the woods or the street, where, God willing, it will be captured and sent to the zoo.
    2. The jerk, having been successful in attracting a mate, with father (or mother) several more jerks in the foul hovel in which it nests.

This has been BBC's Nature Uncovered. Thank You, and goodnight.
