You know what is funny about this thread? Poor Fortiter Et Recte probably thought he was asking a simple question and didn't realize what a can of worms he was opening

OP (Original Poster), where are you?

BTW, many of the Multi-nationals that you perceive to be "American" are in fact head quartered in tax havens like The Caymen Islands...the money being sucked out of your country isn't coming to the States just as our money isn't staying in the States...a little education can go a long way...just sayin'.
I don't mean to speak out of turn.... ....but I will. Don't take all this so personal, I don't believe anything mean spirited was meant by this one persons view on the matter. Again, I have been to Scotland on or about 10 times. I have had nothing but a great experience the entire time I was there. Everyone I met was super nice and very patient with all my annoying questions. Some people here were simply giving some advice as to why they thought it would be more appropriate to dress as you would when traveling in the States rather than going out of ones way and wearing a kilt with all the stereotypes that go along with it. But if you wanted to wear one, the reality is no one would really care, its not a big deal. Just go and have fun, you would not regret it.

There's always America. Visit Tennessee and you can buy a cowboy hat and boots in Nashville.

Oh, the hell with this....I'm just going to get rid of my kilts and stuff and go back to wearing pants full time.

Apparently you can't please none of the people none of the time and rather than go around offending people that I've never met, I jus give up.

Nice knowing you all the past seven years.

There's a musical group in America named "The Mighty Mighty Bosstones" from Boston, Massachusettes. They did a song called "They Came to Boston" about living in a big city / college city (Boston) and enduring the tourism and college kids.

Lyrics to the song are very apropos in this discussion:

They came to Boston on their vacation
They came, they saw, they annoyed me
They saw it all, what? Fanueil Hall
It's best if they just avoid me

Rented a car to see the sights
    They found the HUB confusing
Looked for the Swan Boats in Mattapan
Well, I find that real amusing

I was here before they came
    I'll be here long after
Don't want to share, but it seems clear
    That I'm gonna have to

Here's a link (click on the time shown below the video screen to jump to that song):

This is funny Rocky. I used to live in a rooming house on Newbury between Fairfield and Gloucester. When the Marathon takes place it was almost impossible for me to get home. But I more than recognize your point, absent tourists Boston would be the poorer. And yes in the course of a year there are days when it becomes annoying but I never thought to stop paying Council Taxes. :-)
