I just finished "The Edge" a rollicking fun sci-fi book about time travelers. I just started the 1st book in what is ostensibly a series oriented toward the wee lasses titled "Outlander." It is interesting. Recently I finished both "A Short History of Scotland" and "Scotland's Mark on America."

Frank, The Outlander books are pretty good.. a bit intense in some parts, but the story is really good.. Only thing I didn't like about the series is that each book is like 900 pages.. multiply that by the number of books in the series and War and Peace seems like a novella.. LOL

I just finished reading "The Mackays of the Rhinns of Islay" by Lieutenant-Colonel Gayre of Gayre and Nigg. I'm also almost finished reading a new history book called "Ninja, 1000 Years of the Shadow Warrior" by John Man. Both are really interesting books.

Has anyone read "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky? I know it's a classic. I just purchased a copy but haven't read it. If it's anythink like the works of Checkhov then I am in for a treat! I am developing an appreciation for Russian literature.

In preparation for starting the next phase of my life (which involves about two years of study), I've been reading The Clinical Textbook for Veterinary Technicians.

It seems that the past 30 years spent in the workplace had only prepared me for eventual unemployment in my little corner of the world. The resulting period of not working, lead me to volunteer an increasing amount of time with the local humane society's animal shelter. This in turn allowed me to hear the calling to animal nursing. The next two years will involve a lot of belt tightening, but the final outcome should keep the remaining productive years fulfilling (and help pay the bills as well).
