Re: A rather distinctive Sgain Dubh

In this morning's post. Well made. Good brass. Good steel with an edge that will stay. Corkscrew tight and centred. Small badge nicely cast and well set into the rosewood. My only negative is that it could have a better sheath, but I'm not complaining at this price. A good addition to the XMTS cap badge, dandelion and pewter quaich already in hand. Thanks for adding this to the shop, Steve.

I agree completely. It's a handy blade to have when you are in a hotel in the middle of nowhere, and you are intent on dining on cheese, cured meat and wine. It's the only utensil you need.

Re: A rather distinctive Sgain Dubh

Mine arrived from Steve today, and I have to say I do like it. I don't yet know what sort of stainless steel it is or how well it'll sharpen up, but the way the edge bevel is "set" it was clearly intended to be a functional "working" blade. The "accessory tools" also appear solid, functional, no more "gimmicky" than a Swiss Army pocket knife or a Leatherman multitool.

And the Xmarks crest is just too cool for words.

One of my students (who's an instructor in her own right) just moved into a new place and is having a housewarming/dinner party Sunday afternoon/evening. There will be good food and lots of adult liquid libations, which will be a perfect opportunity to put this sgian through its paces.

Arrived yesterday, or was it Friday? Wifey gets the mail and tends to set things aside without mentioning them to me... perhaps as gentle punishment for my self-indulgent moments...

    Very nice!

Well done, sir. I'm quite pleased, thank you much.

Got it yesterday. I agree with the positive comments above. I do feel the need to comment particularly on the badge, as it is considerably more clear and sharp in detail than many such cast items.

Mine arrived a few days ago and it had its first public outing last Saturday.

Although it feels heavier in the hand, it feel lighter and much more comfortable in the sock than my other one.

And indeed the badge is very well done.

I stand to be corrected here, but I have a feeling that one of our members here had more than a little imput in the design and launch(re-launch?)of said knife some years ago, without the Xmarks badge of course. Perhaps his modesty is preventing him from claiming the credit that he is due?
