So I'm sitting here in my cube just a minute ago and I hear people just over the partition talking about tartans and kilts. They were reading the little bulletin I put outside of my cube explaining a little about why I wear a kilt and answering (or evading) some of the more commonly asked questions.
There were two guys at first and a third came over. I was able to answer a few of their questions, they thanked me and said it was really cool to see someone wearing clothes representative of other cultures besides what they are used to seeing day in and day out. I wished them a happy St Andrews Day and sent them back to work so I could get something done around here.

I am not sure if this one counts but, on Sunday evening, I received a mass expression of kilt-approval when 800 people burst into applause!
The event was the pre-recording of a radio pantomime (to be broadcast on Christmas Day) at the Epsom Playhouse Theatre in Surrey - just outside London for those who are not familiar with our British geography!
In the middle of the warm-up, and whilst the stars and cast members were being introduced to the audience, the Producer stopped what she was doing and peered into the auditorium. "I don't see Skirted Hamish here tonight. Is he here?" she asked. (I usually manage to get front row seats, but the fourth row was the best I could do this year!) A lady sitting behind me called out, "Yes, he's here." At that the Producer instructed me to stand up and acknowledge my fans! As I did so, the spotlight picked me out and it seemed like the entire audience began applauding! For newcomers here, I have been known on this radio station as "Skirted Hamish of Storrington" for a number of years. The "S" word might be objectionable to some people, but it no longer bothers me.
During the Interval and after the show, dear little old ladies were coming up to me and saying things like, "Hamish, it's so nice to see you." and "It is lovely to meet you Hamish. I kept the newspaper when it published all those photos of you, and I still have it at home." I even had two couples who wanted to buy me drinks at the bar!
Don't you just love show-business? I do! 8)

Wow after Hamish's well-deserved recognition I almost feel dumb posting this.
Went to lunch with my buddy Mario to Kildare's today and a kindly older lady came to our table and told me I looked very handsome and she just loved to see a handsome man in a kilt. I never get tired of hearing that. (especially from ladies closer to my own age)

Well done Hamish, you are an inspiration to us all!
Most men would have been very embarrassed to be under the spotlight (literally) before so many people!

Friday night after work I was enjoying a couple of pints with the boys and at the next table there were four young ladies also having some after work drinks. I got up to get my second pint and as I was getting back into the booth I was hearing comments like "He's so big... I don't think I could handle him myself" and "If three of us hold him down, the fourth can see what's under there." I didn't acknowledge hearing this, though I think I was meant to hear it. Had my second pint, shook hands with the boys, and started off for my car. Well wouldn't you know it, all four ladies were just smiling at me and one in particular was giving the long lingering "come hither" look. I just smiled and told them to have a nice evening and then went home to my wife.
Saturday I was Christmas shopping and a woman old enough to easily be my mother stops me, tells me it looks great, and then having broken the ice starts telling me I'm sexy. With that I tried politely breaking off the impromptu conversation before I became the victim of an involuntary kilt check.
This morning on the way into the office I stopped for breakfast at the local Wawa (convenience store). One of the clerks there, a pretty young lass, always seems happy to see me. But on the way out another lady stopped, took off her shades, looked me up and down, and purred like a lioness. Then she looks at me and says "I like."
If I were in college I would write a paper on this phenomenon and get it out there in the open. There is definitely a kilt fetish among some women. It makes them behave like wild animals in heat. The first time it happened to me I wasn't ready for it. I can't imagine what a sharper dressed man like Hamish must endure.

Y'know Magnus, I think the way we dress has alot to do with that. I've noticed that wearing a jacket, tie and dressing up brings a different set of reactions. The attitude others show is more admiring and respectful. When I dress more casually the reactions also are more casual and can get a bit baudy. Peoples reactions tend to follow your style of dress.
