Bummer...St. Andrew's Day let down...

Well Hamish, I just finshed supper with Haggis, 'neeps and tatties' and "a wee dram". The wife shared my feast with some shortbread to finish things off. The perfect finish to a totally non-eventful day here in Texas.

Everytime I do haggis she has a little more so she is developng a slight 'taste' for it. Although she will not do the 'single malt' thing she is coming along.

I must confess to a slight variation...some BBQ sauce on the haggis, but after all...I'm in Texas you know!

Non-event here also. A neighbor, who is also a MacLeod, and I drank some of my year old home brewed Scottish Strong Ale(MacLeod's Highland Ale....mess with the bull you get the horns), take a look at the MacLeod clan crest that is my avatar to see why a bull is associated with my strong ale. My strong ale is also quite potent at 10% alcohol, a bit more than McEwan's Scotch Ale or Skull Splitter. Afterwards we drank some 12 year Glenmorangie Sherry finish. Of course we did all of this kilted. As soon as he found out I am heavily into my clan and the local St. Andrew's society, he joined the clan society and St. Andrew's and got a kilt. I now have him wearing a kilt regularly.

Hmmmmm. Tex-Mex haggis. There's a concept

I went to church tonight for the St. Andrew's Mass, which was inspiring. Our priest gave a brief address about St. Andrew (there were only three of us there!), but it was still very moving to be in church honouring St. Andrew.

Thursday night our Scottish society is helping a local elementary school with a Scottish evening to teach the wee bairns all about Scotland, its culture and customs (they "travel" to a different country each year) -- we will be putting on a "fashion show" with different styles of dress for men and women, and yours truly will be the MC. I will also be discussing a wee bit about tartans and the St. Andrew's Cross. Should be fun, and a great way to "celebrate" St. Andrew's Day.

Note to Phil h: I WILL have my Heart of Midlothian FC scarf on! :mrgreen:

Now, it's off to the fridge for a nice Scottish ale...

No haggis for me today. Just some shepherd's pie with a couple bottles of Belhaven Scotch Ale. Mmmmmmm....

Thinking about it... Boudin or andoulle would be delicious in haggis. Course, I have never eaten haggis. I'd love to try it. But I know what's good eats, and aint no way you can go wrong adding Cajun zing to anything.

When I woke today I figured this is gonna be a good day, for one thing it's St. Andrews day! So off I went on a walk. (about 2 1/2 miles) On getting home, curses,- I had lost my new MacPherson kilt pin. Off I went again in the late afternoon to rewalk my same route and see if I could find that pin. (the day wasn't going so well after all) I'm walking along and here comes this guy in an suv and pulls over to talk. He says: "are you a MacPherson?" He had found the kilt pin on the street and had gone home and researched the clan crest on the web and discovered that it was MacPherson! I'll always think of this as the miracle of St. Andrews day! How that little pin could be found and returned to me within hours of my losing it. incredible!- Alan
