First Kilt?

My first kilt was a machine sewn 13oz casual in the Modern Douglas tartan. I first wore it at an all British car show in Chico California.

My first kilt was a camel Workman's Utilikilt. followed that up with a shamrock sportkilt, which has become my lounging around the house kilt. then picked up a survival utilikilt (my favorite), then a black watch sport kilt, which I wear the gym, and most recently an olive green utilikilt original. I am looking into getting an 8 yard wool handmade from bear when I save a up a little bit in the Morgan tartan.

My first kilt was a Sport Kilt, which I wore hiking, then realised that I liked kilts so much I should wear them all the time. I got a Utilikilt, followed by a 4-yard Bear Kilt, followed by an 8-yard wool kilt in the Co. Longford tartan.

I worked doing the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for four years and always longed to get a kilt. At that time I did not know much of the family history - just liked the look of them. My Dad died recently and my Mum passed on the research he had been doing, fo rme to find Scottish and Irish connections. Oh Joy An excuse.
This Christmas was my Wife's 40th and I had planned a long weekend in Edinburgh, so used the excuse to order my first kilt, a casual in A & R Hamilton Hunting tartan. I first wore it for my works Christmas do, and their response was very positive.(Had a few odd cooments from men whose wive's obviously were not paying them the attention they thought they deserved.)I felt so good I got onto e-bay and picked up a vintage 6-7yd but as yet I have not been able to track down the tartan. You can feel that it's well loved. I also got a fairly cheap plain black, which is the one I tend to wear about at home. I have now got the bug so much that I am making one, and it is proving to be a real learning experience

My first was a forest green Buzz Kidder canvas kilt, which I really don't like very much. My second was a Mountain Kilt from Mountain Hardwear, which is really a kilt in name only. My third was a 4-yd Blackwatch Bear kilt (excellent!), my 4th a Stillwater "Irish National" economy kilt (so-so), and my 5th, which arrived today, a "Pride Of Scotland" casual kilt from Kiltmart (quite nice for the price). I also have my "house kilt", which appears to be a converted sk*rt. It's great for working around the house in.

Some day I'd love to be able to afford a "real" hand-tailored wool kilt from Scotland.

After many years jonesing for a kilt, my first was a UK original postal blue. after a couple more UK's I started going for wool. I still love the original, which I can wear again due to some weight loss... It started to get a bit on the tight side.

My first kilt was a 4 yard classic cut Black Watch Bear kilt. I ordered it after seeing a nationwide article in which Bear was featured. I picked up the kilt at the BC highland games and have worn it for a 30th anniversary celebration, kiltsnights, a 12 hour marathon, and numerous uneventful occasions. The kilt I have is the same material as the Canadian tartans (Bear only offered 8 tartans when I ordered)so it is lightweight and perfect for the 30 degree summers. Mind you I have also worn it in -16 degree winter for a kilt night. The kilt has taken a backseat to the two newer ones (4 yard Mackenzie and an 8 yard Royal Stewart), but it still gets worn a fair bit.

My first kilt was a full Prince Charlie outfit, hired for a week of shows I was doing one Christmas a couple of years ago.

I wore it constantly...and didnt want to send it back!! That told me....time to get your own!!
