Have you considered wearing a clan crest badge and cockade over the logo?

Actually, I hadn't. The Taylor's are a sept of the Camerons (I think) but I have no idea if my last name comes from those Taylor's or not (all that business with where African-Americans got their last names, etc. Lots of confusion there!) so which crest to wear becomes an issue. It's one of the reasons I haven't seriously thought about a more traditional kilt. I have to admit, though, that I think Taylor Ancient is a gorgeous tartan! 8)

I think the XMarks kiltpin would look great on a beret or one of the heavier Kangols (my summer one is pretty light with a very open weave to let air flow through). Dang! Now I have to go buy more hats! Thanks a lot, Doc!!

    You're welcome. :P

You might also want to consider badges from any fraternal order or Military organization to which you might belong, or school that you've attended.

For the time being, my cap badge is a Masonic Crest. In the future, I plan to acquire badges for Clan MacDonald, Clan Chattan, Clan MacPherson, Clan Davidson, and Clan Cameron.

BTW, Clan Cameron's badge would be a good one for all kilt wearers to use. The motto is UNITE!

Have fun collecting hats and badges to go with your kilts.

    hats

I also wear a hat most of the time, Mostly because I'm bald on top!
    and not by choice.

However I do own quite a collection of several style hats,American cowboy,Austrailian cowboy(different from American) ball caps, stetson fedora and my bonnet that I wear for re-enactment.(sort of a balmoral)

I enjoy wearing each and every one of them. But somhow I don't think a cowboy hat goes with a kilt. At least my wife doesn't think so

But I think that a military beret may look very sharp, I was in the Navy for ten years and I always envied that guys that wore the beret. They seemed to be some how more confident and professional.
and way cool the women always went for them more then just us regular guys.

Now if only I could get one for myself. MMMM maybe my friend in the army could get me one.

Kiltie just go to any surplus store and there will be all sorts of berets to choose from. You can also order them online from the very same companies that supply the US military with them. (for American made get it from Bancroft. Should be under $20.00)

Stopped by Siagon Sam's downtown location yesterday (the larger store is out by the air station) they have berets in black, green, maroon and red. All are standard MilSpec, some have leather binding, some nylon. They had just gotten a box of Army black with the blue and white flash still attached, easy enough to remove. All selling for $12.00.

I ended up buying a black one and putting my x-marks pin on it right there. Been looking for a cap to wear with a kilt for a while now and may go back for a maroon.

I got a...get this.....surplus Russian Army Paratrooper beret (with pins) for five bucks off of ebay. After unpacking it....I swear it must have been vacuum-packed into that little plastic bag.... getting it damp and forming it over my head for an evening, I must say that I think it looks pretty sharp. My wife thinks it looks hilarious and gets the giggles whenever I put it on.

Color is a medium royal blue. It looks pretty good with the Black Watch kilt and should be spot-on with the Ramsay Blue USA K when it arrives. I'll sew the USA Kilts patch on it.

I think I'll get a red one to go with the MacNaughtan when it finally gets here.
