Sav... it will have to be the "big pipes" and not the little ones... otherwise you'll be WAY out of tune with us. There's been members of the Loch Rannoch Pipe Band that come-up on occasion, so you won't be in untested waters.

Sounds good, Jimmy. Any ideas from Kyf or Swanny on tunes?

Off-hand... it's usually the standard pipe band playlist. They don't usually sway from the tunes that the audience knows. All originals are buried within the sets (as you well know). We'll have to get you to meet-up with them prior to the thing so that all's "in tune" and on the same wavelength.

Awww- we always whacked our beer glasses to Wild Rover.
And it's no, nae, never...
(WHACK WHACK WHACK WHACK)
No nae never, no more...
(WHACK WHACK)
Will I play the Wild Rover... no never, no more...
I'm afraid my singing runs more to Chicago tunes (the musical, not the band) but if you know All That Jazz I could sing along...
Start the car, we're gonna paint the town...
We're all in kilts!
We've got nothing on from our waistbands down...
We're all in kilts!
Watch the wind, cause its'a coming high,
Don't want to show your bits to every roaming eye!
But if you've got no fear, then have another beer, and wear... your... kilts!

It looks as though it's going to be a great crowd that night. The "regulars" have their tables reserved, and their dancing ghillies on.
For those in the Philadelphia area who are unable to attend for purposes of timing, we'll be playing Finnigan's Wake a couple times in the next month.
September 23rd and October 14th.
For those in the Baltimore area, we'll be playing at TirNaNog on the Inner Harbor on October 8th.
For those in the New York area, we're at the 9/11 Irish Festival near Coney Island on the 10th and 11th.
For those on the Jersey Shore or Atlantic City, we're at Maloney's on September 16th.
For those attending the Irish Weekend in Wildwood, NJ... look for us at Bolero's on the 24th.
Consider that to be a load of invitations to wear your kilts!

Well, folks, I had a great time! It was nice to meet some other XMarks guys, and it was a thrill to pipe with Swanny and Kyf of Barleyjuice!

Great meeting you, Jimmy and Brian. Very cool to hear you and Barleyjuice play. Jimmy and the band were entertaining as hell.

Recap
For those of you who made it, it truly was a great time and the band was fantastic.
It was appropriate that just before Barley Juice took the stage a huge thunderstorm rolled through the area ... must have been a cosmic introduction cause Barley Juice hit the stage like a bolt of lightening and never slowed down! All this dispite rolling in during the pre-dawn hours from a 3am gig in Atlantic City.
Our musically inclined kilt maker and resident band member, Jimmy Carbomb, was kicking butt on the Penny Whistle and other assorted instruments. The band was fully kilted, and Jimmy looked rather comfortable in his newly constructed Irish Flag Kilt. It probably didn't hurt that Mrs. Carbomb was extremely attentive to his Guinness condition and ensured that Jimmy always had a full glass at the ready. What a gal!
There was a pretty good representation of X-marks members there, and of course our very own Sav, looking good in his argyle kilt hose and his SWK solid black kilt, and was invited up to join in what turned out to be a three bagpipe jam session that included a little improvisation and some good old "Scotland the Brave". Sav looked like he was having a bit of a problem initially with his reeds. Could it have been the beer consumption??? ... But finally Sav managed to get things going and sounded fantastic.
There were also some cool kilts in that audience as well. Saw one that I though was pretty usual, that was a black kilt with a white spider web design on the front apron. Pretty cool I thought. There was also a PK, a few USA KIlts, a Sport kilt or two, and a few wool traditional. Quite a kilted crowd!
All in all it was a great night. The crowd was fun and singing along with a lot of the music, especially the "Sponge Bob Square Pants" theme song! Looking forward to the next get together!
Ya'll come back now, ya hear!

A GREAT TIME had by all. Barleyjuice kicked butt as usual. They are dear friends of mine and they still never cease to surprise me. It is not every band that can roll from a traditional music into Cheap Trick then into Johnny Cash and back to tradtional. Any way a Barleyjuice show will never disappoint you. I wish I went around to introduce my self the my fellow X-Marks but I did not, I guess I was feeling a wee bit shy that night.
Brian,
Glad you liked my spider web kilt. The kilt is a early USA Kilt. It was just a solid dark blue kilt. My wife designed and sewed the web onto the apron. I even went as far as having a spider kilt pin made.
